Global Ebook Awards – a triple!

gold medalGEbA_Silver

The 2015 Global Ebook Awards were announced yesterday. I am very pleased to announce that I WON the following:

“Best of” Categories:
Ebook Cover: GOLD: By Light Betrayed
Ebook Photography: SILVER: By Light Betrayed (no Gold medals awarded)

Category: Poetry
SILVER: By Light Betrayed (No Gold medals awarded)

One gold and two silvers! And my silvers are as good as gold to me since no golds were awarded in those categories!

Normally, I don’t like to tout awards or brag very much but I am honored and proud and wanted to share with you. And in case any of you wonder, yes, awards do matter to some readers who are trying to chose between books. If you could get an award-winning book over one that isn’t, might you choose the winner? Especially with poetry, you want any edge you can get.

I’m also pleased that my photography won an award! That really has me over the moon. Cover, poetry and photography. Whee!

Other News: My novella, Midnight Assassin, A tale of  lust and revenge, is in production. Release expectation remains Sept 2015!

And more surprises coming soon!

Thanks for hanging in!
Keep writing.

Yours Between the Lines,

New Book is LIVE!

I’m so pleased to announce that my new book, By Light Betrayed, is now live! Bookstand Publishing, my publisher, has listed me in their New and Notable area as a new release (I’m also listed in the Poetry bookstore). You can view the new listing and make your order here.  Amazon has the hardback listed but not the paperback at this writing. Things take time to show up.  The ebook will come in about two weeks. When it is released, you can get it on Amazon, iTunes, B&N, and other digital readers. The problem is, if you don’t have a color reader, you won’t see my luscious color photographs!

There’s a bonus in this book, too. A fiction excerpt from next year’s novella! So you get a triple whammy of dark, vampire poetry, color photographs, and some fiction. I wanted to give you more than “normal” because this is my last book of poetry.

So, to give you a taste (oh I did just say that!) of the book’s flavor, here’s a link to my You Tube chanel and the book trailer. Stop by and be seduced!

And thank you for your support. Without it, there wouldn’t be this second book.

All right, this is October, time for a few scares and thrills. By Light Betrayed is your ticket to the secret heart of the vampire. Come with me into forever….

New Release!

New Release!

Cover, Peeks, Books, oh my!

Did you catch the big cover reveal yesterday of my new book? Yes, yesterday I posted on my Facebook Author page a nice large picture of the new book cover, By Light Betrayed, Poetry of the Vampires. For those of you not on Facebook, here’s a link so you can peek. Pretty snappy, no? I also put it on my Facebook and Twitter covers. Nothing like a little overkill on publicity, right?

The new book presents dark poetry from the vampires, COLOR photographs by me and includes a very special treat: An excerpt from my upcoming vampire novella, Midnight Assassin, due out next summer (if not earlier). This will be my last book of poetry, and it is totally different from Paper Bones (for those of you who so kindly read it) because it ventures into fantasy, exploring the more gothic and macabre side of the night. Ready to be chilled, thrilled and seduced? Then you will like By Light Betrayed.

For anyone who has been checking in here, I posted a poem from the new book a couple weeks ago. You can see it in Sneak Peeks, but hurry. It is going to disappear soon!

I’ll keep you posted on the day you can order, but it will only be a couple weeks, so great ready!

Yesterday’s #MondayBlogs post about Self-Publishing bears the Bar Sinister has been generating wonderful feedback. Thank you to those of you sending me contact messages and on Facebook. I am grateful for your readership and support. Together we will help uplift the quality of the Indie author.

Some personal news: Do you participate in National Novel Writing Month every November? It is coming closer and time now to prepare. Well I’m a Municipal Liaison for the Charlotte, NC region(one of two) and I’ll be on the forums. If you are in NC or just a part of NaNo, I hope you’ll say hi. You can find me as “poetphoenix.” I’d love to hear from you and I’ll be happy to help you achieve that book goal if I can!

***************

Currently, I’m reading Hidden by Benedict Jacka. I hope you have a good book on the table, a cuppa Joe or a huge mug of tea, a comfy chair and silence to read your favorite author’s latest creation. OH but don’t forget to buy the latest books by some Indie authors that you follow on Twitter or Facebook, too!  Do it because that’s how you support the author. Encourage them to do the same (and maybe they’ll pick up your book, too). Read, support, write, repeat.

****************

Don’t forget to check in to the End the Silence campaign. The contributing women have wonderful stories to tell and offer interesting perspectives. They would welcome your comments.

Thanks for stopping by. Let me hear what you think about the new book cover! And let me hear from you when you publish, too. I support Indies.

As always I remain, yours between the lines!

Every Writer Uses Them

When churchyards yawn and hell itself breathes out
Contagion to this world.”

Ah, what is a hint?

An intimation or allusion? Could it be a mention, a whiff, a shadow or a whisper? Perhaps it might be described as a foreshadowing?

Too menacing? Perhaps not…

Isn’t a shadow also a hint, a foretelling, of what is about to emerge?

Hints can be enticing, seductive, compelling, evocative, dreamy.

Maddening. Delightful. Full of promise. Yes, that’s it. Fun. Even better.

soon....

soon….

Every writer uses them.  Why shouldn’t I? Enjoy!

A pic, a poem, a postmortem

I had company over the weekend, and I promised you a pic from that adventure. My home was filled with laughter and family for a few hours. My son (well, he’s my husband’s son but I think of him as mine since I’ve known him since he was 16 and he’s over 40 now), daughter in law, their son and my grandson, Ron’s nephew and nephew’s new bride. The nephew and bride stayed with us for a few days and my grandson and family came over for some golf and bbq ribs. So without futher adieu…

Here's the gang

Here’s the gang

That’s son, daughter in law, hubby, grandson, nephew and bride. A happy, motley crew. Love them.

Today is the last day of National Poetry Month. In honor of all poetry winging around the universe, and for recent events covered in the news, I offer this little ditty. Make of it what you will.

Paparazzi

Drivel, doggerel, and diatribes!
Who supplied sterile stones for
castling omissible dottrels with
sandpaper rubbed tongues, so
brazen and ministering, of masterful
missals, and funereal arsenide?
Ah, sweet miserable media —
skeptical, unstoppable sybarites!
~

Went to the movies over the weekend. Saw Oblivion starring Tom Cruise. I really liked it. Been a while since I’ve seen a sci-fi movie that wasn’t some sort of remake of something else. This has some very original ideas, new visuals and presented in a fun, exciting way. The movie is beautiful to look at too. Cruise has developed into an actor at 50. He can deliver drama without it feeling forced and it is fun to watch him. Worth seeing.

Finished Angelopolis, the second book by Danielle Trussoni. The tale is detailed and twisty, intricate and full of subplots. It is not a fast read but worth the slow investment in literary drama. I know it will be next year for the final installment of this trilogy but I am happy to make the time investment.

Next on the desk is Naomi Novik’s Crucible of Gold, the 7th installment of the Dragon Temeraire series. Did you know that Novik’s series was optioned by Peter Jackson??? I do hope he makes these into movies soon. What delicious movies they will be in the hands of such a visual master! Oh I will be jumping up and down to see dragons winging across the screen, and not as the bad guys but stars of wonderful series! How cool would that be??  Ahem! My book is due today via UPS and then I will dig into it this weekend. I’ll let you know what I think.

Have we connected on Twitter, Goodreads, Pinterest, or LinkedIn? Let’s! Meanwhile, thank you for coming by. Stay tuned for more news and updates soon! Cya!

Big Announcement!!

I promised you news so here it is:  I HAVE A  BOOK COMING OUT!

Yes, I have a poetry collection being released late summer (date unofficial at this point). I am terribly excited! It includes some of my photography too. (I do wish you could see me hopping up and down here). Just last night I was able to see the final copy of THE COVER!!!  Oh boy oh boy oh boy. And when my graphic artist finishes sending it to the publisher and they have it in hand, I will happily share the beta with you! Did I say how excited I am????

So here are some answers to questions that I think you might ask:

Yes, I am self publishing. No, it is not a vanity press. Yes, I will have an editor. Yes, the cover is a one-of-a-kind, specially created for me by a professional. Yes, it has been an exacting process. Yes, it has kept me up nights for the last month. Yes, I’ve learned a great deal about the industry that I will happily share with you soon. Yes, this will be a stand alone volume. Yes I am using my nickname which becomes my nom de plume (Sherry) and how silly is that since I practically consider “Sherry” as my name. But if it isn’t on the birth certificate…

So there it is. I’ll be doing some new things as a result – like changing this blog to show me as an author, and yes, I will have to open….a (GASP)…..facebook….account. Okay the world may come to an end when I do that as I’m sure I am the last person on Earth who is not already there, right?? And there will be a web page…so many things!

Stay tuned for more new information coming soon!

Also, Anna Mittower’s Guest Editorial is now listed in the tab above if you want to come back and re-read her words at a later date. Anna, thank you so much. I am honored you let me share you with my world. I wish you happy trails in your new adventure and best inks in your writing. When your first book does happen, come back here and let me tell everyone all about it, ok?
